What is CrossFit?
CrossFit combines the best parts of Weightlifting, powerlifting, gymnastics, calisthenics, and kettlebells to produce workouts that give results! By combining the best aspects of these, we can create effective workouts that are short and that offer variety! They can be tough but they have to be! It takes a couple years to get really great at CrossFit, but you can be good and see the positive results after a few months!
What is the WOD?
WOD stands for the Workout of the Day. This is the workout that will be performed in class. It's always different which prevents you from hitting a plateau or getting bored with your workouts! It also takes the guesswork out of training; just show up and do the WOD!
What does a CrossFit class look like?
A typical CrossFit class will start with a group warm-up. This warm up will be specific for the workout planned for the day. It could involve some mobility, stretching, and something to get the heart rate up a little. After this, we will focus on the skill for the day. This could be some gymnastics movements or barbell work and the coach will provide options to keep everyone safe and comfortable while still challenged! The main part of the class will be the WOD. This is higher intensity work done with the group. It can vary in the movements involved, the time it takes and the way it feels. It's done with the comradery and support of the group which is motivating and fun!
CrossFit looks hard, is it just for elite athletes?
CrossFit can be challenging but it's definitely not just for elite athletes! Anyone can do CrossFit! All the movements and workouts can be "scaled" to everyone's ability, fitness level and comfort. This means that any movement in a workout can be adjusted for each individual in the class!
I can't do a pushup/pullup/snatch/ect..., can I still do CrossFit?
YES! Many people think they need to "get in shape" to do CrossFit. This couldn't be further from the truth! CrossFit will definitely help you get in shape but everyone can start CrossFit regardless of their skill level, experience or ability! CrossFit workouts can be scaled to keep workouts challenging, but safe and accessible to everyone! We say this a lot because it's true and something we do every day!
I do HIIT/Bootcamps isn't that the same?
While there are some similarities between CrossFit and these programs, there are some major differences. We do focus one some high intensity work like these other programs, but what sets CrossFit apart is the incorporation of high skilled, functional movements. These movements are taught and performed under the watchful eye of one of our coaches. These movements include things like the snatch, cleans, jerks, handstands, muscle ups and more!
Why is there a Foundations Program?
Our Foundations Program introduces the technical movements we use in the CrossFit classes. This includes barbell movements and gymnastics. If you're new to CrossFit, our Foundations Program is mandatory before participating in the group classes. This is to make you more comfortable and confident with the complex movements we use in class. You'll by no means be an expert but you'll have some of the basics to be able to safely participate in the classes and continue to build on the skills developed in Foundations!
What's the difference between Olympic Weightlifting and powerlifting?
